Let us know how it goes. Going 1/2" to 1/4" sounds bad enough on the surface ("Wow, 1/2 the size!"), but it's actually only 1/4 the cross section. That would make me nervous too.
I have a couple questions. I read a few of the other threads, but none addressed these.
When looking for new FMTV tires, will all of the varieties of tires these came with have the DOT codes that indicate age? Many of the things I read caveated it with something like "All highway legal tires...
A couple months ago I cracked one of the transmission cooler lines, and drove at least a few miles with it leaking quite steadily. You know how if you turn on the kitchen faucet just to the point where it stops dripping and starts running in a thin continuous stream? It was leaking like...
I finally had a chance to use the above procedure to recalibrate the throttle position sensor and transmission. It worked like magic. The transmission shifts really well now, up and down. It even stays in 3rd until the truck has come to a complete stop for 1-2 seconds, which is nice because...
I was just replacing my old clutch with the new style today. From the outside, they look very similar - I don't know what's different on the inside. The way to tell them apart (besides the part number obviously) is that the old style has threaded bolt holes for attaching the fan, and the new...
The old engine fan PN 4035-41393-74 DOES NOT fit on the new fan clutch assembly PN 1090-08000-01, for anyone else who might try this in the future. The new clutch has studs, where the old one used bolts, and those studs are in a slightly larger bolt circle.
Here's a picture of the old fan's...
Strange layout. They add the hood (and presumably move the engine forward), yet you can see that the air tanks have been moved up to an even larger cab-to-bed gap behind the cab. So what's underneath the cab, where all that empty space from the engine is? That thing is like 10' longer than a...
A shop will probably be around $100/hr, give or take.
Like was suggested before, there is probably a military motor pool around somewhere that you might be able to make friendly with and get some first-hand help. Around me, a couple smaller local HD truck shops also have at least one mechanic...
I've been working on some LED dome lights with red lenses that will be 3D printed. I bought the LED panels off eBay (search: 2Pcs White 36-COB LED Panel HID Bulb Car Vehicle Interior Map Dome Door Light), and I'll design up a housing for them that fits in the holes in the roof. Hopefully I can...
I'm not sure if that's a joke, but no, I can't smell it. The canister is 1/2 full, but of course right now weather is warm enough that it starts easily.
What's the best way to test the ether system? Unscrew the tubes at the engine block, and have someone hit the button? Does the engine have to be cranking?
Thanks!
How do you identify the two generations of Trucklite headlights? My truck already has LED lights, just not the heated ones. The beam pattern feels very wide and short (doesn't seem to throw light very far in the distance).
My LMTV came with LED headlights... from Bragg. In the Colorado winter last year, it became obvious to me why there are heated variants. However, when looking at various sites, such as https://www.levineautoparts.com/militaryled.html , I'm confused which heated headlights are the correct...
